You’ve clicked over here because you’d like to know something about me, I presume. Well, there’s really not much to tell. I lead a pretty ordinary life.
Currently I’m unemployed which gives me copious amounts of time to crochet, knit, sew, ponder the universe, stare into space, cook, crochet, knit, sew, ponder….
Let’s just say I have a few hobbies which include cooking, photography, knitting, crocheting, stained glass, sewing, painting, reading, movies, hiking, biking, and travel. I really do like to sit quietly and stare into space but I’m the only one that seems to consider that a hobby. Of all of these the one I’d like to do more of is travel.
Outside the U.S.A. I’ve been to Canada, the Bahamas, Norway, Iceland, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland. I’d gladly go back to Norway at any time and I’d be glad to stay forever. Places I’ve never been but would like to see are England, Italy, Antarctica, Alaska, the Galápagos Islands, Chile, Peru, China, to name a few.
Right now I’m living in South Dakota but have lived in 6 other states, some long-term, some briefly while at school. The best of the lot has been New York (NYC, specifically), and North Dakota (the badlands and the west, specifically). So far I’ve been to all the states except Alaska, Hawaii, and Nevada; how I’ve managed to miss NV is a complete mystery!
Seems I’ve done just about everything as far as jobs are concerned including driving bus, computer technician, being a waitress and bartender, and student cook/chef. The ideal job would be me running a little restaurant in some quiet town. Since that’s unlikely to happen, I’ll have to be content with fixing dinner every night. That’s usually satisfying, sometimes impressive, and occasionally a total disaster. Gotta keep them guessing, you know! I like to cook because I like food. Tastes, textures, aromas. All important parts of a dish and fun to explore. Favorite things to make are bread, dessert, soups, dessert, pasta, dessert…. If you give me chocolate I’ll gladly take it. If you give me toffee, I’ll be your friend forever.
Ravelry isn’t my first foray into online community life. Back in the heyday of CompuServe (pre-AOL, that is), I was a section leader on Women’s Wire. After that forum changed hands and became The Women’s Forum on CompuServe, I was assistant sysop until the forum once again changed hands and was irrevocably AOL-ized. Ravelry is the first online community that I’ve come upon since leaving TWFoC that offers intelligent conversation, helpful advice, and good fun. Elsewhere most “conversation” consists of a surfeit of OMGs, WTFs, and such, but no real substance. Ravelry is pretty much all substance save, maybe CP&AG.
It’s good to have such a nice community to belong to.
I try to keep this blog somewhat timely but I’m not always that organized. However regular my posts, I hope they are informative or somewhat entertaining. Just because you don’t see an entry doesn’t mean I’m not writing. It’s just not always fit to post. If you Ravel I hope you enjoy seeing what I’m up to and I hope you’ll share your accomplishments. You’re welcome to comment on anything you read here (or there).
